As we all know, the Nucor Family is committed to our country and community not only by making world class steel and steel products, but also by giving back and being a leading part of worthy causes.
In 2013-2014 Nucor started Operation Steel Warrior (OSW), a fundraising effort focused towards supporting the foundation Building for America’s Bravest (BFAB), and raised over $400,000 dollars to help the Wounded Warrior Captain Ben Harrow build a smart home for him and his family. In an effort to give back to our first responders and wounded military veterans, we ask your support in continuing the Operation Steel Warrior campaign in 2015.
Below is an excerpt describing the foundation’s story:
“Building for America’s Bravest (BFAB) is a proud program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. It aims to raise funds to build custom designed, specially adapted homes for the most catastrophically injured American service members. The legacy began on September 11, 2001. FDNY father of five, Stephen Siller was on his way to meet his three brothers to play golf. When he heard on his scanner what had happened at the World Trade Center, brave Stephen strapped on 60 lbs. of firefighter gear, rushed on foot through gridlocked traffic and ran from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center site. Stephen was last seen with his brothers of Squad 1; all of whom died saving others.”
Currently, there are 22 Nucor Divisions committed to supporting Operation Steel Warrior, with more already actively raising funds, and as 1Nucor we hope to make this a yearly movement beginning on the 4th of July and culminating on the 11th of November—Veterans Day. With our Teammates working together we can hopefully raise enough money through t-shirt sales and other fundraising activities that will make a huge difference in a service member’s life. We’d like to thank you for your consideration on this important contribution.
